The vibrant community of Amuwo Odofin is gearing up for the fifth edition of AmuwoGames, a grassroots sports festival that has become a symbol of youth empowerment, social engagement, and community pride.
At the official press conference held on October 15, organizers unveiled plans for the 2025 edition, which is expected to engage over 50,000 residents across eight teams and a wide range of sporting events including football, basketball, swimming, chess, cycling, and more.
This year’s theme, “Cancel Scam Culture,” reflects the festival’s commitment to promoting integrity, accountability, and positive values among young people. The initiative aims to use sport as a tool for social change, encouraging participants to embrace fair play both on and off the field.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Prince Lanre Sanusi, expressed his support for the festival, noting its impact on youth development and community cohesion.
“I’m happy to be part of this biennial festival, now in its fifth edition. It started almost a decade ago and has grown into a major community event. This year, we’re expecting to engage over 50,000 residents, youths, families, and sports lovers. It’s a great opportunity to connect with our people and address critical social issues through sport,” he said.

Also present were officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission, who commended the consistency and scale of the initiative. They pledged continued support, emphasizing the role of AmuwoGames in discovering local talent and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Festival convener Oluwaseun Ayeni highlighted the deeper purpose behind the games:
“This isn’t just about sport. It’s about showing up for something bigger than ourselves. AmuwoGames is where community, integrity, and teamwork come alive. When we lead with values, we don’t just improve performance, we inspire change.”
With growing support from local partners and attention from international observers, AmuwoGames 2025 is poised to be more than a festival, it’s a movement for values, unity, and youth-driven transformation.
