Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos — November 4, 2023 — The AmuwoGames 2023, an annual community sports festival, has begun with an electrifying opening ceremony that promises a thrilling series of sporting events and showcases. The atmosphere was brimming with excitement and high expectations as members of the local community gathered to celebrate and cheer for their teams.
One notable highlight of this year’s AmuwoGames was the choice of a new venue for the opening ceremony, the FHA Field in Festac Town. This change of location was met with enthusiasm from the local residents and provided a larger and more convenient space for the event.
The torch parade was led by Hon. George Adegeye, a Member of the House of Representatives representing the Amuwo-Odofin constituency, and Victor Agali, former Nigerian Super Eagles striker. The torch, named in honor of Adeoye Adesanya, a beloved committee member who passed away two years ago, was carried with deep emotions by Hon. Stella Foluke Osafile and other respected community leaders.
Seun Ayeni, the founder of AmuwoGames and the Local Organizing Committee Chairman for the 2023 edition, delivered a poignant opening speech that emphasized the importance of community, unity, and the spirit of the games.
