The Biggest Sports Festival in Amuwo Odofin – AmuwoGames berths in Grand Style

AmuwoGames was flagged off by the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Chairman, ably represented by the Vice-Chairman – His Excellency, Mr Segun Idris – by raising the Games torch at approximately 11:00 a.m. yesterday, November 05, 2017.

The torch parade, which included prominent Amuwo Odofin personalities and celebrities such as Faze, African China, K Peace of Nigerian Idol fame, the Chairman of the Oriade LCDA, Ward councillors, the Festival Town Residents Association President – Mr Sola Fakorede, and other resident association chairs, concluded with the initiator of the torch relay entering the venue of the opening ceremony.

At the ceremony, the Chairman of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government and the House of Assembly Representative Member of the Amuwo Odofin Constituency – Honourable Dipo Olorunrinu – made additional remarks.

Highlights of the ceremony included ceremonial kickoff of the football match by Honourable Dipo Olorunrinu, and music performance by K Peace, to cheer people of his home zone who are also the hosts of the festival.

The first football match was played between the Festal Sharks and the host team Mile 2 Lions, and the Festal Sharks won 2 – 1 to advance to the semi-finals.

Live feeds were broadcasted on the AmuwoGames social media handles – @AmuwoGames – in response to popular demand from people in the diaspora who are eager to participate in the festive fun.

AmuwoGames will be a unifying factor in our community, as well as a source of talent discovery, as we hope to discover new talents through the competition, says Mr Kunle Keshinro, co-organizer of the AmuwoGames. We are confident that the people of Amuwo-Odofin will have a good time this November as the games take place, and we hope that other communities will follow in our footsteps in the future to build grassroot sports and youths in general, he said as he anchored the ceremony.
